In the spring of 1999, Pastor Tim Zacharias and his family moved to Branford and immediately fell in love with this thriving community in the greater New Haven area. Knowing there was a need for more of a Bible-believing influence along the shoreline, they began to make plans to start a church.
The summer was filled with a lot of planning and praying, and then on September 19, 1999, Community Baptist Church had its first service. There were 25 people from the area in attendance, along with a few family members and friends from out of town for support. The church began to grow slowly and steadily, ministering to people from all backgrounds of life. We chartered our church in November of 1999 with 15 members. We met at the Days Inn Conference Center for 7 years, growing to around 60-70 people regularly attending.
In February of 2007, we moved to the Community House in Branford, allowing us room for some more growth. We were there until January of 2008 when we completed a renovation project of our current facilty at 869 West Main Street. God has blessed the ministry and we have grown to average near 120 people each Sunday. We are in the process of raising money and seeking God's direction concerning purchasing property.
Pastor Zacharias has a philosphy of ministry that includes expository verse-by-verse preaching and teaching of the Bible, one-on-one comprehensive Bible study, small group studies, and training of every member for service in the church. We seek to be balanced and Christ-honoring in every area of our ministry. Our services are neither too formal nor too casual, too traditional nor too contemporary. Community Baptist Church draws people from all walks of life. We invite you to join us and come see the difference!
